Everyday Folk - Chapter 1 - thejerseydevile - The Hobbit - All Media Types [Archive of Our Own]

thejerseydeviledoodleblog:

Good Shire-folk don’t really believe in fairy-stories or fate, but not every young faunt is blessed to have a real-live, in-the-flesh wizard for a godfather. Or: The tale in which an orphaned Frodo Baggins finds a new home, and a new loving (and strange) family with the “Mad” Bilbo Baggins and then sets off on an unexpected adventure to save a far-off kingdom, the Shire, and poor Bilbo’s Westfarthing crockery. All in a day’s work for everyday folk, really.

Basically that fanfic that I have always wanted to write but that we didn’t really need lel

;U Reblobbing for the night crowd

Pretend Final Draft + Intro for my second entry: and it’s all about tooth-rotting fluff

There’s no hard and fast rules to this :’) I just want something that is domestic, and cute and that is Bilbo Baggins x Bofur.

Bilbo is a mean cook in the kitchen, but sometimes even he needs to step aside to let other, somewhat skilled persons have a go at the stove. And Bofur proves to be an unexpected adept when it comes to making something sweet.

1000+ bonus: Writer uses an actual recipe :D But other than that, free reign for wherever this prompt takes you~

Final Draft + Final Intro to The Hobbit x ATLA/LoK Crossover!
Huh, it’s looking kind of empty back there. We’ve got a classic “hero” pose but uh, where’s the background? The side characters? The big bad villain looming in the background…?
That’s where you—potential writer type—come in to swoop in, save the day, and give the art a little more direction with an awesome story :’D
In this AU, Bilbo is an airbender—the only daughter of a particularly famous airbending master known for her world-wide travels and adventurous streak. In contrast, the unassuming Bilbo is quite happy to stay put in her comfortable hillside village hidden in the shadow of the great Western Air Temple, with naught but her books, her little garden, and the cantankerous companionship of a flying-lemur affectionately named Gollum. (For the weird hacking sounds he makes)

That all changed, when the firebender (And rumored White Lotus member) Gandalf appeared on her doorstep. And on his heels came a host of warriors led by a beautiful waterbender with eyes as blue as the sky—and one of the grouchiest temperaments that could even rival her Gollum. This ragtag group claims to be a band of merchants—highly unlikely since they’re bristling from head to toe with weapons like a hedgesquirrel—hailing from the great Kingdom of Erebor. Stranger still, these “merchants” have a particular interest in the airbending gift for astral projection and their innate connection the Spirit World, in particular wondering if knowledge of these airbending arts can be shared.
For personal, totally academic reasons, of course.
And the ruse would have perhaps, lasted throughout their entire visit—if not for the armed assassins that storm Bilbo’s home, and the revelation that she was actually entertaining exiled royalty, the disgraced Heir to the Ereborean throne following the “murder” of her father and her younger brother . And suddenly, Bilbo finds herself pulled into a world of political intrigue, spiritual comas, and the sort of unexpected bonds of friendship (and love) that form in times of crisis.
Extra cool things to consider:

Since this is an ATLA/LoK AU, and both are VERY well known for having awesome female characters, gender bending is encouraged and appreciated. Hence, why our main protags, Bilbo and Thorin, are specifically female in this AU :)
In that same vein, it doesn’t have to happen, but I would love for this fic to be fem!bagginshield
You’re also very very welcome to ship whoever you want—plenty of art in store for any and all extra ships ;D
Elemental match ups/who is a bender and who is a non-bender are all decisions I leave open for the writer! Though, I did imagine Erebor as being similar to Republic City, with the kingdom and the surrounding city of Dale and the Lake Town being a mix of all nations.
A big 1000+ for the elves being Water Tribe, though, if only for the healing arts and the potential for Thorin to be unfortunately related to them (And for their lack of help during this political turmoil sting all the more)
You’re amazing if you can work in the Arkenstone, somehow, someway
:’) This prompt may seem like a tall order, but I promise to supply the writer with endless support and doodles supplementary drawings throughout the whole process!  And if anyone wants to follow said process artings—and martial arts geekery—you can find them all hidden in this tag: #hobbitreversebang: atla au

Quick exercise; tried not to spend more than a couple of minutes on each “panel”

* A * Thorin needs to learn to stop doubting people and dismissing them ugh

And yes i forgot the arrows in the first panels oops

"What’s so strange about it? Doesn’t the Avatar mix styles?"

"Yes, but that’s the Avatar. They need to master all the elements, thus all the bending styles. Otherwise there’s no point; it will weaken your technique."

(Though that “fact” doesn’t seem so cut and dry, considering the way Thorin is unhindered by her unusual style and easily flattens opponents with great, vicious torrents of water.)

"Aye, I suppose that’s true in a way. But I take it you’ve never been to Erebor, eh? Some of the older folks have a weird superstition about Durin the Deathless and his descendents…"

"Do enlighten me."

"Durin the Deathless was a firebender—his son was a firebender, although he did have an earthbender daughter, too, but she never rose to the throne. Instead, his son, and then his granddaughter—also a firebender—held Erebor through good times and bad, and so on and so forth.”

"And…?"

"After a long line of firebending kings, with the occasional earthbending sibling, we get Thorin. So our dragon had to learn how to swim."

((Just some rambling))

Shoot deadline is approaching I better post something

Hello :’D Just here to whet your appetites with some drafts for the first draft (WOW) of my Hobbit and Avatar The Last Airbender/Legend of Korra AU entry!

Bilbo is an airbender—daughter of a particularly famous airbending master known for her world-wide travels and adventurous streak. In contrast, the unassuming Bilbo is quite happy to stay put in her comfortable hillside village situated in the shadow of the great Western Air Temple, with naught but her books, her little garden, and the cantankerous companionship of a flying-lemur affectionately named Gollum. (For the weird hacking sounds he makes)

That all changed, when the Fire Nation attacked Gandalf appeared on her doorstep. Stranger still, these “merchants” have a particular interest in the airbending gift for astral projection and their innate connection the Spirit World.

And the ruse would have perhaps, lasted throughout their entire visit—if not for the armed assassins that storm Bilbo’s home, and the revelation that she was actually entertaining exiled royalty. And suddenly, Bilbo finds herself pulled into a world of political intrigue, spiritual comas, and the sort of unexpected bonds of friendship (and love) that form in times of crisis.

Wow cool features:

  • Since this is an ATLA/LoK AU, and the series is VERY well known for having awesome female characters, gender bending is encouraged and appreciated. Hence, why our main protags, Bilbo and Thorin, are specifically female in this AU :)
  • In that same vein, it doesn’t have to happen but I would love for this fic to be fem!bagginshield, if possible :’)
  • As for elemental nation match ups, I again would love to leave it open for the writer! Though, I did imagine Erebor as being similar to Republic City, with the kingdom and the surrounding city of Dale and the Lake Town being a mix of all nations. A big 1000+ for the elves being Water Tribe, though, if only for Thorin to be unfortunately related to them (And for their lack of help during this political turmoil sting all the more)

:’) As you can see, I’m doing my best to leave it very open-ended for whoever dares to claim this; though I wouldn’t mind talking anything out with my writer! I will hopefully have a more “poster”/”cover” looking draft soon, but for now enjoy these little tastes of what’s to come!

You can also refer back to the #hobbitreversebang: atla au tag on my art blog for more doodles and character previews and maybe some martial arts geekery haha

jfc it’s hard to make water look cool

Thanks Thorin * A *

What do you know about the world?
I know you doubt me—I’d doubt me too, I’m an airbender, we avoid trouble if we can help it. So yes, I’m not a war hero or a strategist, and I’m certainly not a politician or even a proper diplomat.
But I will help you, if I can
A disgraced princess seeks enlightenment and instead gains an ally who may just be who she needs to keep her kingdom from falling apart

@sassahfrassarah: dwarves as water tribe? hobbits are airbenders? are elves earth benders? because that would be rad and hilarious I want to marry this AU
:D Well, as this is my entry for hobbitreversebang I am going to leave all that fun sorting out to whoever dares to claim this!
Though personally the scenario I have thus far is an all-human ATLA-AU, with Thorin’s mother hailing from the Water Tribe :) Otherwise, the Durin family line solidly presents as earth or fire benders. So Thorin being a bit of an anomaly as water bender is essential for plot/questions of legitimacy haha
